Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on the Mildred Creak Unit (10PAs)

An exciting opportunity has opened up within the Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS) at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in this well established post. This offers candidates the chance to work as the consultant psychiatrist and service lead in this inpatient unit for children aged 7-14 at an international centre of excellence.
The successful applicant will lead on the assessment and treatment of the 10 patients on the MCU. Particular patient groups include eating disorders, severe functional/psychosomatic presentations and a range of other severe/complex clinical presentations including Mood and Anxiety disorders, ASD, Severe OCD and Early onset psychosis. The postholder will also lead on managing referrals to the unit and will attend a weekly NHS England referral meeting as well as chairing a fortnightly MCU referral meeting.
The MCU Consultant oversees the care of all the patients and Chairs the weekly Ward Round as well as weekly Review/CPA/Network Meetings.
The successful applicant will supervise the Core Trainee and the Higher Trainee on MCU and work alongside a highly experienced MDT.
The applicant will also be expected to provide psychiatric liaison input to the wider hospital with the Mental Health Liaison Team.
Main duties of the job
This is a 10 PA (programmed activities) post for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and clinical lead on the Mildred Creak Unit (MCU). The post is based in Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS) at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. This is a longstanding, well-established full-time post at GOSH. The trust is developing a Mental Health Liaison Team and the successful applicant will be asked to dedicate clinical time to this service (anticipated a minimum of 1PA).
The MCU is a Children's Inpatient Unit for young people aged 7-14. There are currently 7 inpatient beds and 3 day places but the unit is due to move in 2023 to a newly built unit in the Southwood building, where there will be 8 inpatient places and 2 day places
