Job summary
You will provide high quality genetic counselling to patients and families within the NETRGS region. They will be expected to act as an autonomous practitioner undertaking counsellor-led genetic clinics. You will also be expected to act as a role model and expert practitioner. In addition it will be expected that the post holder provide education and training to genetic and non-genetic health care professionals and other groups as well as promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of the genetics service through research and evidence based practice. We are keen to help staff develop clinical areas of special interest, as well as build up research and educational activities, subject to the requirements of the service.Applicants should have previous experience of managing an autonomous clinical caseload and should be registered with the AHCS, HCPC or recognised overseas body. Applications will be considered from individuals who are not registered or not yet eligible to register with the AHCS. Registration must happen within three years of appointment and appointment will be at band 6 until Registration is achieved.Our service is paperless which has allowed us to adopt a hybrid model of working. We are continuing to evaluate our plans for the service in the future.

Main duties of the job
- To have responsibility for a defined geographical and/or specialist patient caseload incorporating care coordination remit as required
- To provide information, clinical advice and support to patients and families within caseload and act as a resource to other professionals involved in the patients care
- To work autonomously and undertake regular Genetic Counsellor led clinics
- To be an expert, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within genetics, ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based care for patients and their families.
- To work closely with other Genetic Counsellors to cross cover and represent them as appropriate in their absence.
- Act as an ambassador for the department and speciality across the Trust and regional service
- Contribute to the development of genetics services proposing changes to working practices within the department.
- To deliver educational programmes for genetic and non-genetic health care professionals across primary, secondary and tertiary care
- To support colleagues with AHCS, HCPC and other appropriate registration processes
- Undertake CPD as required for maintenance of professional registration
