Specialty Doctor in Paediatric Dentistry (6 PAs)
Fixed term contract - 12 months
Applications are invited for a specialty doctor in Paediatric Dentistry based within the Dental & Maxillofacial department at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Part time and job share arrangements would be considered.
The Maxillofacial and Dental team provide maxillofacial surgery, orthodontic services, paediatric dentistry and restorative dentistry for children and teenagers. The department sees over 5000 outpatient and around 300 inpatients per annum, many of whom are under multiple clinical teams due to complex medical needs. The unit benefits from a purpose built suite with 6 clinical rooms. There is also a dental lab along with co-located office space.
The department has three all day theatre lists per week shared between the specialties.
Applicants will be expected to be registered with the General Dental Council and have experience in treating paediatric dental patients. Postgraduate training in paediatric dentistry will be considered an asset.

Main duties of the job
- To provide comprehensive paediatric dental care for appropriate patients, including treatment under local anaesthesia, inhalation sedation and general anaesthesia on an outpatient and inpatient basis.
- Treatment planning within the multidisciplinary team, with particular liaison with maxillofacial surgical and orthodontic colleagues.
- Carry out Cleft Audit data collection twice per month at Great Ormond Street Hospital and once per month at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
- Clinical supervision of SHO and visiting trainees
- Attainment of the necessary continuing medical education and professional development criteria.
- The post holder will be expected to work closely with other members of the maxillofacial and dental team and other key professionals, especially medical, surgical and anaesthetic colleagues
- Assessment and triage of new patient referral letters
- Co-ordinating dental treatment on other operating lists
- Clinical administration - letters and emails
- Liaison with other medical teams and departments to promote good oral health
