Job summary

The GOSH Learning Academy (GLA) is looking for an experienced VR developer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis. This is a unique opportunity to join the GOSH Learning Academy working as part of the Clinical Simulation team.

This dynamic role presents the opportunity to apply a combination of technical, creative, administrative and team working skills to work within one of six priority areas under the GOSH Learning Academy. The post holder will provide expertise to assist technical development and code restructuring of an existing virtual reality platform for teaching, clinical planning and research studies.

This post has been created to ensure improvement of the platform to incorporate computer modelling and simulation capabilities.

Main duties of the job

Performance/Project Management

  • Design, development and testing of 4 defined applications of the V-Hearts virtual reality platform.
  • Lead the development of VR simulation scenarios to enhance the delivery of specialist programmes under to GLA simulation portfolio
  • Analysis and optimization of the existing code, design of novel specific features together with version control and maintenance of a code repository.
  • Research including validation of the platform tools together with gathering evidence on the usefulness of VR in clinical settings.

Essential

  • Software engineering or game design background, with 4+ years of experience
  • Extensive portfolio of previously completed projects in Unity
  • Expert in C#, strong understanding of OOP design patterns, data structures, algorithms
  • Experience with graphics (shaders, rendering pipelines, textures)
  • Experience developing for VR platforms (Quest 2) and using SDKs such as Oculus integration, VRTK
  • Experience in image processing.

Desirable

  • PhD (for Grade 7) in biomedical engineering with emphasis on medical imaging processing and computer modelling
  • Experience with mathematical concepts, advanced algorithms, writing multi-threaded code, optimisations in Unity3D (such as Burst/ECS/jobs compiler)
  • Experience with 3D modelling tools, blender, 3D max
  • Experience with UI/UX design
