Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the post of a Senior Specialist (Paediatric) Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT) at Great Ormond Street Hospital Mortuary.

This is a fixed 2-year position to undertake post-mortem work related to a project funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative: Organ maturation in preparation for birth. This in an exciting collaboration between GOSH, UCL and the Welcome Sanger Institute to understand normal organ development using single cell sequencing.

The principal tasks of the role include post-mortem activities related to the project and responsibility for the administration of the research grant i.e., documenting samples, liaising with other researchers on the project, writing reports and papers. Flexible working will be required to accommodate time critical research samples related to the project.

Main duties of the job

You will already have a significant range of skills and expertise in a mortuary environment having experience and a clear understanding of working with the deceased and bereaved in a paediatric/perinatal environment. Meticulous attention to detail and ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and the bereaved, is vital.

You will demonstrate knowledge of the processes following death including documentation and options available to the bereaved. Knowledge of the following standards relevant to the processes applied in the mortuary environment is expected: HTA, UKAS (ISO 15189), and Bereavement Services Standards.
