Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric nurse to permanently join as a 0.5 WTE post in the diabetes service. The role of Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (Band 7) will enable you to work alongside an established multi-disciplinary team with a focus to provide the best high quality care for children and young people with diabetes.
Our multidisciplinary diabetes team provides a service for children and young people aged 0-19 years. The service is a specialist referral centre for those with rare forms of diabetes including Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, New Onset Diabetes After Transplant and Steroid Related Diabetes. The team also manage children and young people with Type 1 diabetes who are admitted as inpatients under other services.
Main duties of the job
You would be involved in co-ordinating care for children and young people with diabetes and their families in the hospital and home setting. You will have the opportunity to build upon existing knowledge and skills, learning strategies to help young people struggling with their diabetes; expand on knowledge of intensive insulin regimens and advance their own nursing practice, provision of structured patient education and assessing the needs of Children and Young People in order to plan patient care.
This role would suit either a current band 7 nurse or an experienced band 6 nurse. You will be enthusiastic about improving standards of diabetes care, have excellent communication skills and an ability to work in collaboration with other professionals.
