Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital Mortuary is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the post of an Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT). We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our HTA and ISO credited forward thinking team.

Main duties of the job

You will already have a significant range of skills and expertise in a mortuary environment. You must be able to communicate well with people and be willing to participate in all activities related to the mortuary. You will work as part of a team, with other professionals and provide an exceptional service. The duties are both physical and practical and include document control (electronic and written), preparing patients for family visits and dealing with families directly. Meticulous attention to detail, recall of information, and ability to work with others, especially the bereaved, is vital.

You will have experience and a clear understanding of working with the deceased and bereaved ideally in a paediatric/perinatal environment. You will demonstrate knowledge of the processes following death including documentation and options available to the bereaved. You will demonstrate their ability to follow instruction in their application form and must be able to support any statements made. Demonstration of knowledge of the following standards relevant to the processes applied in the mortuary environment is expected: HTA, ISO (ISO 15189), and Bereavement Services Standards.

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work. Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work without supervision and to organise and manage own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Competent computer skills, use of QPulse, PIMs, PACS or other mortuary electronic recording systems.

  • Ability to take post mortem consent.
