Main duties of the job
Specific Clinical Duties
As the clinical team in I&PC, we support the specialty consultants of Great Ormond Street Hospital deliver care to both inpatients and outpatients with conditions encompassing over twenty specialties. This care is provided in a modern, bespoke facility within Great Ormond Street Hospital. Each patient's specialist consultant has overall clinical responsibility for their in-patients. You will be expected to work closely alongside these specialist consultants to ensure their clinical plan is carried out while ensuring the general paediatric care of each patient is considered. This will involve conducting daily general paediatric ward rounds, teaching and supporting the Trust Clinical Fellows, organising and chairing MDT meetings and admission planning meetings, as well as providing senior clinical leadership to the clinical governance and education programmes within the directorate.
The directorate uses the main hospital theatres to deliver its surgical/investigatory activity. When appropriate, beds in the NHS wards are used for critical care such as PICU, NICU and CICU. In addition, NHS wards may be used to manage I&PC patients in the immediate post- operative period, for example Koala ward for post- operative neurosurgical cases.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop links with the Trust-wide Safeguarding team. This will be discussed once the candidate is in post.
