Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Communications and Engagement Officer to join our Communications team, firmly focusing on Innovation and GOSH DRIVE (Data for Research, Innovation and Virtual Environments).

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)s mission is to provide world-class clinical care and training, pioneering new research and treatments, in partnership with others, for the benefit of children in the UK and worldwide. Our research teams are consistently amongst the best in the world in their disciplines. At any one time, there are around 1,000 active research projects ranging from observational studies to clinical trials of medicinal products.

One of our core priorities in our Above and Beyond strategy is to accelerate translational research and innovation to save and improve lives. GOSH, together with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, is world-renowned for translational research activities. As a Research Hospital, we want to make sure that research and innovation is fully integrated across all areas and that all of our staff, patients and their families have the opportunity to take part.

Our communications team builds connections, trust and shared understanding with patients, their families, colleagues and volunteers, partner organisations and others. Were here to generate active support so that together we can advance care for children and young people with complex health needs and enable them to fulfil their potential.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Research Communications Manager, this pro-active post holder will develop and lead on dynamic, relevant and engaging Research and Innovation campaigns and communications activity for colleagues. Building on successful awareness raising activity around research, these new interventions will raise participation in research amongst our diverse colleague base. Gathering colleague insights and surfacing their experiences will be really important. In alignment existing frameworks and annual plans, the post holder will map the current opportunities and challenges to getting involved in research across colleague groups - and generate a measurable plan for delivering approaches, campaigns and content for internal engagement activities based on this. While the initial focus of this role is internal, we expect that the stories you uncover will often work for an external audience and this post holder will work closely with the wider communication team, and partner organisations, to summarise complex research and research experiences and share them, far and wide.

Its a very exciting time to join us in this newly formed role. If youre able to turn complex science into understandable research insights, build strong relationships and have good experience delivering initiatives and campaigns that drive awareness and involvement, wed like to hear from you.
