Job summary
This post entails working as part of a multidisciplinary team that provides diagnostic assessments, supportive counselling and pharmacological treatments for individuals undergoing gender reassignment, using NHS England guidelines as the framework for the patient's clinical pathway.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to further development of effective liaison with Primary Care GPs services, which are the principle source of referrals to the clinic. This will include initial screening of incoming referrals and contributing towards the initial assessment of each patient's individual needs to help formulate individualised care plans and to effectively manage any identified risk factors.
There is a requirement to assist medical colleagues with the execution of thorough physical examinations of patients prior to their treatments, as well as acting as a supportive chaperone for this intervention. There is an expectation that the post holder will engage in further professional development to enhance existing skills and knowledge to improve the patient experience for service users.
Main duties of the job
1. To engage in developing and delivering a range of therapeutic activities within the Gender Identity Clinic, both autonomously and alongside clinical colleagues.2. To assist the Head of GIC with the day-to-day management of the clinic.3. To provide supportive input to patient care and treatment via face to face contacts, telephone and information technology systems such as email communications.4. To promote and develop effective working relationships with key groups ie GP Practices, secondary services and other health and social care agencies.
To work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team within NHFT Gender Identity Clinic, offering a range of interventions throughout the establishment for patients. There will be an emphasis on supporting patients who may present with mental health difficulties, such as social anxiety, self-esteem disturbance and depression which are directly related to their diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria.6. To liaise with the patients' local primary and secondary services with a view to ensuring effective communication and equal access to local services where available.7. To manage, support, and supervise clinical and administrative clinic staff members in the Clinic Manager's absence.8. To signpost patients and their primary care services to local support networks and resources and act as a conduit for information and advice regarding current protocols relating to Gender services e.g. Hair removal protocols.
