Job summary

The Band 5 Staff Nurse post holder will provide sexual health and contraception specialist nursing care across Northamptonshire,. You will be based in our Kettering hub (Ashwood Centre) but may also be expected to visit our spoke sites Rushden, Corby and Wellingborough. They will be supported by the multidisciplinary countywide team within Northamptonshire Integrated Sexual Health and HIV Services (NISHH). The MDT includes a team of Consultants, Pharmacy, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Band 7 senior nurses, Band 5 and 6 nurses, support workers and healthcare assistants.

You will be line managed by the Band 7 Senior Nurse.

Main duties of the job

  • Adminstering and dispensing treatment of Sexually transmitted infections (STI's) under Patient Group Direction (PGD)
  • Partner notification
  • Venepuncture
  • Asymptomatic STI testing
  • Symptomatic STI testing
  • Results management
  • Sexual health advice and health promotion

Desirable

  • Evidence of specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice or willing to work towards a sexual health qualification
  • Mentorship or Student Assessor/Supervisor training

Knoweldge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience or demonstrable knowledge and interest of working in a sexual health service
  • Experience of using EPR systems
  • Experiencing or demonstrable knowledge of partner notification for STI's
  • Ability to communicate effectively to patients including sensitive information
  • Understanding of confidentiality in sexual health
  • Demonsrates effective team work
