Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a permanent post has arisen within NHFT to deliver integrated healthcare within HMP Littlehey as part of the Mental Health In-Reach Team. The successful candidate will have prior experience working as an Assistant Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working as a member of the mental health team to provide psychological interventions for a wide range of mental health challenges, including the delivery of psychoeducational groups and one to one work, as well as working with neurodiverse residents. The ability to employ CBT for common mental health challenges is essential but the post holder will also make use of other psychological approaches as necessary to ensure that the most suitable person-centred care is provided.

HMP Littlehey is a Category C prison which holds up to 1260 men convicted of sexual offences. Residents may be adults of working age or older, with an average age of the population of 55. We are seeking a candidate who is committed to the delivery of trauma informed care, and passionate to provide a service for an especially stigmatized group of service users who often present with significant histories of traumatic experience.

There will also be the opportunity to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research. The post requires the ability to work alongside partner agencies such as the prison, forensic psychology, and probation services in order to provide residents with care and support while meeting the operational needs of working within a secure setting. The production of reports and communication with partner agencies will require the regular use of professional writing skills.

The nature of our work may involve exposure to material and situations which may be emotionally challenging.

Essential

  • An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

  • Experience of work in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities as an assistant psychologist
  • Experience of using psychological assessments, formulations, risk assessments and care planning

Desirable

  • Experience of working with people with offending history.
