Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Professional (Nurse or Allied health Professional) who has the passion and is excited by the prospect of establishing a new role. This post is receiving funding for the first two years from the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) to establish the service, work with patients, their carers and all services that support patients with MND to enhance patient care and develop pathways to improve the patient journey. The ideal candidate will be resilient, self motivated, able to work without direct supervision, but must be able to work collaboratively with the established Palliative Neurology Team and the Motor Neurone Disease Association
The post holder will be based at either Cynthia Spencer Hospice, Northampton or Cransley Hospice, Kettering however the post will require flexible working across the county to meet service need.
This post is fixed term for 2 years, with the expectation that the post holder will collate evidence in that time to support the development of a business case to secure the long term funding for this post. There will be a management implementation group involving key stakeholders to offer support and guidance to the post holder as this new post develops over time.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with expert knowledge, skills, and experience in MND management who is passionate about furthering their clinical skills and leading an evolving service. You will be responsible for leading and informing on new best practice initiatives related to MND within the service, and as a part of Regional and National forums where applicable, including taking part in research opportunities, writing of protocols/ guidance and delivering/supporting training to staff within the service and externally. You will be part of a countywide Palliative Neurology Team delivering symptom management to patients in Northamptonshire with a confirmed diagnosis of MND and related conditions. The post holder will be required to undertake a baseline MND audit within a few months of starting in post and will be repeated in Year 2

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Registered professional with NMC or HCPC valid registration
- Masters degree or equivalent experience and competencies,
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Holds the V300 Non medical prescribing qualification (if a nurse)
- Significant experience of working with people with long term conditions in a community based setting
Desirable
- Previous experience of caring for people with MND
- Demonstrable specialist knowledge and skills to identify problems or symptoms and ascertain whether they are due to primary diagnosis or other causes
- Experience of developing and maintaining specialist led clinics
- Implementation and management of successful change/quality/practice development projects
