Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen through collaborative and partnership working with the acute trusts, which has resulted in a number of new posts being resourced within the service level agreement.
This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8 Principal Speech & Language Therapist to join the Acute Team. You will join a team of speech and language therapists and Support practitioners who sit within the Acute team and cover the two Acute Hospital. This is a full-time substantive post of 37.5 hours per week across the two sites.
The post holder will be an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist knowledge of differential diagnosis associated with complex tracheostomy and upper airway management.
Main duties of the job
Will independently manage and prioritise a complex, highly specialist caseload of ITU and Acute patients, including highly complex dysphagia and upper airway management.
Will support/mentor junior colleagues and provide expert opinions to others, including advice and support for colleagues referring to specialist services from outside Northampton.
Will provide clinical teaching of Speech and Language Therapy students and will develop and deliver specialist training to others in the area of clinical expertise.
Will initiate and undertake research/Clinical Governance/audit projects within area of expertise.
Will lead on development of care protocols/packages in relation to specialist area, in conjunction with principal/service manager.
To develop the ITU pathway in line with national developments and guidelines across Kettering General Hospital (KGH) & Northampton General Hospital (NGH).
To provide specialist treatment plans to inpatients and outpatients with tracheostomies/complex airway management and highly complex dysphagia.
To take the Speech and Language Therapy lead in multi-disciplinary clinics.To lead on the service within the specialist areas identifying development opportunities and issues, managing change and staffing alongside clinical demands.To work with the AHP Leads across the hospital sites, and ICB.
