Job summary
NHFT provides the provision of police custody healthcare services in Kettering and Northampton Custody Suites. The service is based on a multi-disciplinary team model which includes the use of Paramedics, General Nurses and Mental Health Nurses along with Forensic Physicians. We will be providing 24 hour embedded Healthcare Professional cover at both sites, by Paramedics and Nurses, with Forensic Physicians available through a 24 hour rota.
Main duties of the job
You will become a member of the custody healthcare multidisciplinary team. Under the current contract you will be an embedded member of staff in custody providing clinical skills and expertise for forensic physician case work within the detention areas of the Criminal Justice Centre at Brackmills Northampton and Weekly Woods in Kettering. You will support the effective governance of all areas alongside the existing management structure of NHFT.
You will provide a clinical role in line with the current custody healthcare contracts. The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake the role of Clinical Lead for the Custody Healthcare Service.
Alongside your clinical role you will also provide training and education to the wider NHFT custody team to ensure that all staff meet the FFLM standards for their custody work.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- Experience relevant in Forensic & Legal Medicine. Experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
- Previous experience as a Forensic Physician
- Post graduate qualification in clinical forensic medicine or the ability and motivation to gain such a qualification
- Possession of membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine or the commitment to obtain such membership within three years.
- Knowledge of PACE and other related legislation
Desirable
- Member of the Facility of Forensic & Legal Medicine (FFLM) or willing to work towards
- FFLM senior officer/course facilitator or equivalent
- Evidence of first hand experience of developing services in a constantly changing environment and to tight budgetary restraints
- Experience of training Specialist Registrars
- Understanding of contracting, finance and activity monitoring
