Job summary

You will be employed by NHFT and complete the course with Northampton University.

As a Trainee , you will be expected to work under supervision as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.

This approach requires flexibility and working in educational settings.

There will be an expectation and opportunities to work collaboratively with children, young people and their families to support the co-production and development of the service, creating meaningful participation work.

Please note: The EMHP posts are training positions subject to a 1 year fixed term contract, successful candidates will be expected to travel to Northampton University to complete their training and the positions will be based in Kettering.

On successful completion of the EMHP course, Trainee EMHPs will be change to Band 5 on Agenda for Change Pay scale.

Working hours are Monday-Friday 9-5 with expectation to start earlier and finish late on some occasions.

You will need a valid UK driving license and a car to use for work.

Main duties of the job

The Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner role will:

  • Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions, under supervision.
  • Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to work directly with children, young people and families.
  • Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to carry out holistic and child-centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments.
  • Manage a caseload
  • Conduct audits and offer workshop and training as a Whole School Approach.

The Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner is required to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, or be able to study at Level 6, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health (completed courses in relevant areas at Level 3, equivalent to A-levels)
  • Experience of working with children and young people, their families and others.
  • Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties
