An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop your skills within the Specialist Head and Neck Speech & Language Therapy Service.
We have a funding till March 2025 for a full time post specializing in Head and Neck Cancer, complex airway management and surgical voice restoration.
We welcome applications from HCPC registered Speech & Language Therapists with significant experience in the field of adults with complex dysphagia and experience in Head and Neck Cancer.
The post is based within the Head and Neck multi-disciplinary team at Northampton General Hospital. The service provides Surgical and Oncological treatment for patients with head and neck cancer living in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. It is a specialist field and not all SLTs will have had a chance to develop skills in this area. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic SLT who wishes to develop skills in assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders related to head and neck cancer.
There is also the possibility of to take part in the National Pathos Control Trails phase 2/3 with Videofluoroscopy Carried out at Per/Post and 6 month intervals.
There is good professional support, regular clinical supervision, as well as strong links with the East Midlands H&N Cancer Advisory Group.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist knowledge of differential diagnosis associated with complex Dysphagia within Head and Neck.
Will independently manage and prioritise a complex, highly specialist caseload of complex dysphagia, Head a& Neck patients and Video fluoroscopy patients.
Will provide leadership support to the band 8A across the Head and Neck pathway
Will support/mentor junior colleagues and provide expert opinions to others, including advice and support for colleagues referring to specialist services from outside Northampton.
Will provide clinical teaching of Speech and Language Therapy students and will develop and deliver specialist training to others in the area of clinical expertise.
Will initiate and undertake research/ Clinical Governance/audit projects within area of expertise.
Will lead on development of care protocols/packages in relation to specialist area, in conjunction with principal/service manager.
To be involved with and develop in the Video fluoroscopy/ FEES diagnostic clinic at taking responsibility for analysing the images on PAX and writing the reports
