Applications are invited for a senior staff nurse (Band 6) post in the HIV Outpatient Service (Summers Unit) within NISHH. The post holder will be based at one of the two county hub sites at the Ashwood Centre at St Mary's Hospital in Kettering, but cross county working may be needed. Attendance for the countywide MDT at the other Hub site in Northampton will be required. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, clinically orientated nurse to join an experienced friendly multidisciplinary, countywide team. NISHH operates an integrated service model (in line with local commissioning expectations and national service specification).

We are ideally looking for a candidate with training and experience in HIV nursing. We offer excellent training opportunities in clinical specialist areas of HIV, Genito-urinary medicine (GU) and contraceptive care, as well as leadership and management skills for future senior posts. This post will provide the post holder with ongoing development in HIV specialist nursing competencies and skills.

Main duties of the job

This post is specifically for the management of HIV patients and the proportion of work dedicated to GU/SRH will depend on the post holders skills and interest in line with service need. The post holder will report to the Senior Nurse at the Ashwood, St Mary's Hospital, Kettering hub site base but will be expected to work closely with the other Senior Nurses within the service. The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary countywide consultant led HIV Team.

This role involves direct contact with patients on a daily basis. This will involve dealing with enquiries, taking and managing blood results and medication concerns. It will incorporate a role for health advising, education, and partner notification. Basic STI testing for HIV patients will be part of this role and will be supported by your GU colleagues. The post holder will be expected to follow local and nationally adopted protocols, under the supervision and guidance of the senior doctors in the team.

The post holder will be flexible and able to support new ways of working and the new model of service delivery within the HIV Unit (Summers Unit). They will be expected to manage telemedicine review clinics for patients and work independently but as part of a team. The post holder will be supported by the senior medical and nursing team and work alongside our specialist pharmacy team and psychologist.
