Job summary

The Macmillan Psycho-Oncology Service are looking to recruit a compassionate and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to cover a 12 month period of maternity leave to support the ongoing psychological support for patients with cancer under the care of Kettering General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be well supported by the Principal Clinical psychologist and Service lead with regular clinical supervision. The Psycho-oncology Service has close working relationships with our psychology colleagues working within cancer and palliative care across Northamptonshire, along with the site specific cancer MDT's within the hospital.

Some experience of working with people with cancer or in a health psychology setting would be valuable, but not essential, although you will be expected to have an understanding of the relationship between physical health conditions and emotional wellbeing. Whilst working with patients with cancer can at times be an emotionally demanding area in which to work, it is also highly rewarding and therefore this opportunity would suit somebody that may wish to explore whether oncology may be an area they would like to work in longer term. There is a possibility of funding being secured for a permanent 8a position within the service in the near future.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with a number of multidisciplinary adult oncology teams, providing level three and four psychological interventions in line with the service model recommended by NICE for the provision of psychological care to people with cancer. The role will also involve supporting the delivery of supervision, consultation and teaching to the level two practitioners, as well as providing support to other staff within oncology services and the wider hospital as appropriate. The post holder will work closely with the Service Lead. Other aspects of the role could include the opportunity to implement patient involvement initiatives, service evaluation and reporting, and contributing to teaching for specialist clinical training courses.
