Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a dynamic and resourceful qualified Physiotherapist to work in a fully holistic way, providing an in-patient service for people of working age with both mental health and physical health needs. This is a rapidly developing field of physiotherapy that brings to play all of your skills and knowledge based on multiple specialisms such as MSK, neurology, cardio-respiratory as well as an understanding of mental health disorders.

Working in a small hospital enables close team working and development of inclusive working relationships with colleagues where you feel a valued part of the whole in-patient pathway. Length of stay can vary from a few days to many weeks, so there is real opportunity to work alongside people regularly over an extended period of time to build a rapport and truly make an impact to their recovery and rehabilitation outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with patients admitted with a primary mental health need due to conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and dementia who also experience a range of physical conditions that impact their ability to function.

The role is crucial as part of the physical health pathway; improving or maintaining function for independent living; contributing to decisions about post discharge ability and support and equipment needs alongside the OTs. In a mental health setting you will need to use your resourcefulness and skill in different communication and engagement styles to encourage trust, rapport and engagement with your prescribed programmes.

Under the guidance and supervision of senior staff you will work independently alongside the physiotherapy apprentices and as part of the wider therapy team and ward teams.

About us

You will work as an integral part of the central therapy team as well as the ward MDT. Access to varied development opportunities and training to enhance skills is actively encouraged and supported. There is openness to new ideas and ensuring quality is at the heart of what we do.

As the in-patient mental health therapy service is managed centrally as a countywide provision, there may be the requirement to input to comparable teams on the St. Mary's hospital site in Kettering.

NHFT is committed to developing leadership at all points of care and offers a range of specific courses for staff to develop their leadership skills and potential. Staff can also take advantage of many wellbeing opportunities on offer.

NHFT have received an outstanding rating by the CQC report and is a beacon of excellence in terms of the facilities for patients and staff as well as their way of working and commitment to best practice. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative and supportive multidisciplinary and therapy team and be part of its continued growth.
