Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 5 Nurse within the Treatment Centre at Berrywood Hospital, Northampton, we provide a countywide ECT, Ketamine Infusions and Ketamine Oral treatment and it is largely nurse led. If you are an independent, self-motivated, autonomous practitioner, this is the team for you. The role is very specialized. High standards are expected and the post-holder will be working within a multidisciplinary team consisting of registered nurses, ODP's, Anaesthetists and Medics.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to take part in preparing the patient for treatment, which will include pre-anesthetic assessment, care planning, ensuring the Mental Health Act framework is followed, completing cognitive assessments and providing information and education to your patient and the referring team. On treatment days you will be required to set up an ECT and Ketamine treatment clinic, complete safety checks, infection control measures and to support the Clinical Team Leader and Matron with any other duties.The post holder maybe asked to support other departments within the Centre for Neuromodulation when required.

The post-holder will also be trained in the assessment, treatment and recovery process for Ketamine Therapy, a new development in the care and treatment of resistant depression. ECT and Ketamine treatments are used with some of the most complex and unwell patients therefore effective communication skills is a must as well as working effectively as part of a team. A proactive can-do approach to complex problem solving is vital, as well as taking responsibility, being authentic and embracing change. The treatment centre embraces innovative practice within the field of neuromodulation and the applicant will need a keen interest in evidenced based standards and quality care, assisting in regular local auditing and the ECTAS standards.
We will support you to develop your professional career through the Trust Leadership Matters training program to fulfill your potential to become an exceptional member of our team delivering outstanding compassionate care to our patients. It would be desirable if the applicant has experience and knowledge of ECT within an ECT setting and a good understanding of Ketamine therapy for depression, this is not essential as internal and external ECTAS training will be given.
We will provide you with a full induction and/or preceptorship programme if you are successfully appointed. There will be internal training and development opportunities both within NHFT and through our links with universities within the East Midlands.
