Job summary

NHS Northamptonshire Talking Therapies Health service are looking for expressions of interest for a number of full time substantive posts as a support worker to our therapy staff, otherwise known as a peer support worker. NHS Talking Therapies Northamptonshire Health is a developingservice, committed to staff well-being and provision of quality therapy following Government NICE guidance for treatment for the population of Northampton. The service, full of PWP, Senior PWP's and HIT therapists is expanding and aims to continue to build strong local community ties and with this aim as a focus there are numerous opportunities to work on creative projects and initiatives in the local area.

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates, with lived experience of mental health difficulties, who are committed to their own development within the service and who are passionate about working creatively within the community.

Main duties of the job

1) To work one-to-one with people, listening, exploring their strengths, choices and supporting them in planning for their recovery from mental health distress related to a long term physical health condition.

2) Provide access to evidence-based information.

3) To help facilitate peer groups and educational groups.

4) Supporting psychological therapy within the service and be a positive image for people who have limited belief or experience of recovery and empower people to take positive risks in supporting their own recovery.

5) Will be supervised and supported by Senior Psychological Well-being Practitioners.

6) Reporting directly to the Service Leads

We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Desirable

  • oEvidence of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem and to be able to demonstrate an ability to manage situations where a service user or carer is upset or distressed and act professionally and appropriately.
  • oDemonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care

  • oExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills
  • oPassion for recovery and empowerment

  • oAble to organise and manage own workload and time effectively.
