Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to work within the Mental Health Team for adult men and women detained within an immigration removal environment. The Mental Health Team provide residents with high quality assessments, specialist advice and evidence-based interventions to support them whilst they are at the centre. The post holder will work closely with a range of healthcare professionals in developing a trauma informed service for people who have experienced considerable hardship and/or have been victims of torture or human trafficking. The role involves working in a multidisciplinary team with other health professionals including Nurses, Specialist Nurses, Dentist, Optician, Pharmacist, Psychiatrist and GPs. The postholder will also be working with other partner agencies such as Serco, the Home Office, Kaleidoscope and Befrienders. The mental health team sits within the wider healthcare team and consist of two Mental Health Nurses, an Assistant Psychologist and a Principle Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work directly with adults who are experiencing mental health difficulties within a detention immigration removal centre
  2. To work jointly with staff from the wider healthcare team and other services within the centre
  3. To provide advice/consultation to other staff regarding the management of residents experiencing complex mental health problems
  4. Conduct mental health assessments and Assessment and Care in Detention and Teamwork reviews (ACDT)
  5. Attend complex needs and individual needs meetings when required
  6. To work as part of a team and on your own initiative as required
  7. Manage a caseload
  8. Attend daily referral meetings and triage referrals
