Job summary
NHFT CAMHS is currently developing its pathway to support children and young people (CYP) with managing strong emotions. Through this pathway we are increasing our offer in the service to support CYP who present with ways of coping and behaviour that places themselves or others at risk of harm and/or interfere with relationships, for example fluctuating between expressing need for help and pushing away, disengaging from those trying to help. This population of CYP require support from practitioners with specialist skills to help them engage in a therapeutic relationship and work toward goals of managing their strong emotions. Interventions on this pathway aim to help young people and families learn a broader range of strategies for understanding and managing their emotions and being more effective in relationships.
Main duties of the job
- Supporting with assessment/screening to clarify individuals' presenting difficulties and needs, eligibility for specialist interventions (e.g., DBT-A programme) versus fit for alternate offers of intervention.
- Provide co-facilitation of groups.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of DBT-A materials and skills in group facilitation, educating and fostering application/rehearsal of skills in the day to day lives of young people and caregivers
- Supporting other practitioners within the pathway to continue to develop the provision, through delivery of effective needs assessment, development of content that is responsive to the needs of young people and families and referring services/populations, and routine evaluation of interventions to demonstrate outcomes beyond immediate clinical activity and highlight areas for quality improvement.
- To provide support to colleagues in the CAMHS and AMH services in accurately identifying needs and making appropriate referrals to the service.
- To work as a member of the community CAMHS service, ensuring the highest standard of care through maintaining the quality of own work by developing own skills and knowledge.
