This post is on Shearwater, the 7 bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for women at the Welland Centre, St Mary's Hospital Kettering. The post could be offered as 15 hours per week or combined with hours on either Sandpiper ward, a 16 bed female ward or Avocet, the 16 bed male ward to make up full time - 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The postholder would work alongside the existing band 8A psychologist on Shearwater as part of a well- established MDT, where psychology is considered in high regard. Funding has been successfully obtained to increase the psychology resource across the Welland up to 1 full time psychologist per ward and 2 assistant psychologists, as well as the lead psychologist. There are also opportunities to work closely with inpatient colleagues at Berrywood Hospital.

The Inpatient Psychology Service provides psychological assessment, formulation and therapy with service users across the adult mental health wards. A large part of the role also involves more systemic working; providing team formulation sessions, staff support, debriefing, training and working to promote psychologically minded and therapeutic practice across the wards. The post holder will be expected to use a recovery oriented approach, to actively promote service-user involvement and to develop psychological ways of thinking across the care pathway. Psychology also works with partnership agencies, which is an integral part of the role.

About us

The Trust has an active network of Psychologists and Psychological Therapists and you would be actively encouraged to participate in network meetings and other CPD activities. You would receive regular supervision from one of the Principal Clinical Psychologists, who lead the Inpatient Psychology Service . We have good links with both the Leicester and Oxford Doctoral Training Courses, and regularly host trainees on placement.

The post would normally involve working on weekdays between the hours of 9am and 5pm, but patterns of work may be reviewed to suit the needs of the service or the post holder.
