Working across Northamptonshire, base to be agreed upon recruitment but either St Marys Hospital, Kettering or Newland House, Northampton.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Community Nurse to join our Learning Disability Service in Northamptonshire.

We are looking for a Community Nurse who is passionate about working with people with learning disabilities and has demonstrable relevant experience working with this client group.

We can offer you a friendly and dynamic team environment, with a commitment to continuing professional development. You will be part of an established team within the community learning disability services across Northamptonshire, who will provide regular clinical supervision and peer support.

The Northamptonshire Community Team for People with Learning Disability delivers specialist multi-disciplinary healthcare to Children, Young People and Adults who have a learning disability presenting with physical health needs, a mental illness and / or behaviours which challenge. The service provided is person centred and tailored to the individual and their environment, taking into account their ethnic and cultural backgrounds and needs. We provide this through direct support, joint working with other services and / or through offering consultancy to other professionals involved.

Main duties of the job

This role requires you to clinically lead a team of nurses in best practice within the CTPLD (Children and Young People) in conjunction with the wider multi-disciplinary team.

You will provide a service to children and young people with learning disabilities in the community who have been referred for support with specialist learning disability health needs e.g. behaviours that challenge.

You will have your own caseload and work in collaboration with the person, their family / carers, other relevant services and the multidisciplinary team to enhance, optimise and maintain the person's quality of life, addressing barriers to health inequalities.

Essential

  • Recognised RNLD or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the Nurse and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Evidence of post qualification CPD, including positive behaviour support (PBS)/ challenging behavior, or agreement to undertaking to complete them in first 12 months

Desirable

  • Completion of leadership development courses

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable and relevant experience as a RNLD working with people learning disabilities in the community
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of working as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of maintaining knowledge of latest evidence and best practice in Community Nursing and learning disabilities, including knowledge of the impact of national drivers

Desirable

  • Experience of dealing with staff issues and managing performance, sickness and conduct matters
  • Experience of working with groups of people and leading on projects and working parties

Skills and Abilities

  • Passionate about working with people with learning disabilities
  • Able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and make reasonable adjustments as required
