Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for a new part-time 0.6 WTE consultant psychiatrist in our Early intervention for Psychosis Service. The post is for the south NSTEP (Northamptonshire Services for the Treatment of Early psychosis) team. This post has been created following further investment received for the expansion of our early intervention service.

The service is divided into two teams north and south. There is a substantive full-time consultant currently in post countywide. The role will be based in Northampton. We are a flexible working service that provides NICE concordant care to patients with first episode psychosis between the ages of 14 and 65, and also have a separate psychology-led parallel ARMS (At Risk Mental State) service under the umbrella of Early intervention.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with a fantastic MDT that consist of admin, nurses (4 are NMPs), an occupational therapist, psychologists, CBTp therapist, a part-time staff grade and a full-time core trainee, support and carer support workers, and an employment specialist.

Clinical duties include specialist assessment of new referrals, ongoing routine and urgent patient reviews and MHA related work. There is exciting opportunity to be involved in the national NCAP/EIP audit, linking in with the East Midlands EIP network, and leading in service development. There is opportunity for getting involved in training and teaching of medical students, junior doctors and NMPs.

  • Ability to work under pressure

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act and able to act as Responsible Clinician.
  • Minimum of six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in approved training post) or equivalent
  • Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training.

Desirable

  • Additional Postgraduate Qualifications / experience in EIP
  • Publication of original research or service evaluation/audit projects
  • Management training

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
  • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
  • Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members
  • To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole.
  • An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an MDT.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fluid clinical environment
