Job summary

Our rotational posts have been so successful that we have decided to recruit another psychologist in this way. This post provides a qualified psychologist with the opportunity to work within different services across NHFT over time. It would suit newly qualified or established psychologists alike who would like to try something different from the comfort of a permanent position. Your role will begin in Adult Mental Health in-patient and Learning Disability services where you will be managed and supervised by clinical psychologists. The next rotation will consider service need along with your preferences for experience and development. Both post-holders who have worked in the rotational post have moved onto permanent posts within our trust, and a third rotational post holder is working across two services at present.

Recruitment incentive:

    • 'This permanent post benefits from a recruitment incentive of £5,000 pro rata for successful candidates over 2.5 years. Initial payment of £2,000 will be made in the 1st month with a subsequent payment of £2,000 made on the 13th month of employment. The remaining £1,000 will be paid out in the 18th month of employment. Terms and conditions apply.'
  • Relocation Package/Removal Expenses Procedure:

'Relocation package is available up to £8, 000, if the successful postholder relocates to Northamptonshire and meet other eligibility criteria. This is subjected to approval'

Main duties of the job

If you are looking to expand your experience in varying services, be part of a supportive network and work for a Trust wherein psychology has a prominent role, you should apply.

"This post was an incredible opportunity as a newly qualified to work in a range of services before committing to something longer term. Each rotation lasted 6-12 months and I was always involved in deciding where to go next. The flexibility of a split post resulted in me covering 5 services in 2 years including adult mental health, children's services and staff wellbeing. Working with psychologists across the organisation enabled me to build on and broaden my therapeutic skills with plenty of CPD. It also gave me unparalleled insights into the successes and challenges across services to share learning in teams, think creatively about the whole system, and ultimately better support clients. It has been a fantastic experience in a nurturing network and I'm pleased to be staying within the organisation."

To deliver psychological assessments and interventions to people with Learning Disabilities and their support networks, and within an in-patient (adult mental health) setting, for the first rotation.

Subsequent rotations (agreed through dialogue between the post-holder and specialty heads) will require similar in different settings.

Post is likely to involve working with staff teams in order to develop and work within psychological formulations, and to support well-being.

About us

NHFT are known for having a strong, Trust-wide psychology network who meet monthly for peer supervision and CPD through seminars across specialisms. Psychology therefore has a prominent voice in the organisation and is well regarded. This has been demonstrated most recently during the pandemic with the psychological wellbeing of all staff a key priority.

As an organisation, we are working towards team leadership models, where clinical leaders work alongside operational managers to share responsibility for service outcomes. We are invested in moving away from individualising narratives and towards 'healthy team functioning' and compassionate leadership across the Trust. A lot of exciting co-production work is also happening with our experts by experience.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
