Job summary

To supervise and monitor the Housekeeping Services within a specified area of the Trust, ensuring that the highest standard possible is maintained throughout that area.

To achieve and maintain professional standards as determined by the Housekeeping Department.

To work within expected standards and results and adhere to the Trust's Policies and Procedures.

3. SCOPE OF THE JOB - TO INCORPORATE

Responsibilities for Patient/Client Care - you will assist Patients and relatives during incidental contact, such as giving directions.

Responsibility for Information Resources -you will be responsible for recording personally generated information for the purpose of your job as well as staff within your area of responsibility.

Financial and Physical Resources - you will observe personal duty of care for equipment and resources that you use in the course of your job, i.e. cleaning equipment and chemicals etc.

Human Resources - you will be required to provide training to new staff as well as less experienced staff. You will be required to deliver personal development reviews to members of staff .

Policy/Service Development - you will be required to follow Trust policies and may be required to comment on Housekeeping policies applicable to your own work area.

Research/Development - you will be required to undertake cleaning audits and surveys

Main duties of the job

Knowledge Training and Experience:

NVQ 2 in Supervisory Management and/or NVQ Assessor in Cleaning or willingness to

obtain these qualifications.

Ability to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills.

Basic computer keyboard skills.

Ability to work as a Team member as well as on own initiative.

To be capable of carrying out a physically demanding occupation.

Minimum of one year's experience at supervisory level.

Proven track record of successfully meeting high standards of cleanliness.

Knowledge of Housekeeping Procedures.

To understand and observe the Data Protection Act and the need for confidentiality.

Excellent communication skills both face to face and on the telephone.

Planning and Organisational Skills:

Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks.

Ability to demonstrate a flexible, customer focused approach.

Ability to effectively supervise change in liaison with Senior Managers.

Ability to demonstrate flexibility in taking part in varying shift cover, which may include

early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Ability to issue Housekeeping stores in accordance with COSHH Regulations.

Analytical and Judgmental Skills: will be required to solve problems and adjust your work pattern as situations change.

Physical Skills: this post will require a good level of physical fitness.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To be responsible for the supervision, welfare and training of staff directly accountable to you in order to ensure cleaning quality standards are met.

2. To maintain accurate records of staff movement, i.e. Duty Rotas, Time Sheets, Annual Leave, staff absence and Bank Holidays, in order to ensure adequate cover.

3. To ensure the use of safe working practices for members of staff in line with the Trusts Health and Safety Policies in conjunction with the Safety Officer and Safety Representatives.

4. To assist and advise the Housekeeping Manager with recruitment and training of staff to ensure the recruitment of suitable staff, in line with Trust Policies.

5. To carry out Personal Development Reviews with staff in order to ensure training needs are identified and in compliance with Investors in People standards.

6. To identify own training needs and undertake this training to achieve agreed outcomes.

7. To respond effectively to all customer comments and complaints.

8. To assist the Housekeeping Manager in the Planned Quality Auditing Programme.

9. To undertake any other duties allocated by the Housekeeping Manager in order to develop and deliver a cost-effective service, which is customer-focused, ensuring that time is spentin their allocated work areas, recorded and audited.

10. To maintain Patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust Policies, for the prevention and control of infection, including hand hygiene. To undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in infection prevention and control, Manual Handling, COSHH and Dementia.

11. To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, in compliance with Trust and staff responsibilities, under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004; to follow the Trusts Safeguard Children and Child Protection Policies and Guidelines and undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in safeguarding children/child protection. By following Trust Policies in relation to safeguarding adults, staff will ensure that they work with other agencies to protect all adults from abuse at any time.

12. Responsible for ensuring cleaning equipment is properly used by others and responsible for ordering cleaning materials and equipment.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, colleagues and customers.

To communicate diplomatically, at varying levels within the Trust, to ensure that day to day duties are performed to and meet with, the required daily standards.

To be courteous at all times and maintain high standards of personal hygiene.
