Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a permanent Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the Burns & Plastics Inpatient Therapy Team at Salisbury Hospital. We are a regional specialist Burns & Plastics unit for the South-West, providing care for adult and paediatric patients from Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. Typical caseload includes burns, major lower limb trauma reconstruction, amputees, hand trauma, infections leading to skin and soft tissue loss and subsequent reconstruction, and orthopaedic/medical outliers.

This Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will work alongside the Band 7 Physiotherapists to lead and develop the OT service, and whilst it is largely covering an in-patient caseload there is an element of Scar Managment Clinic and outpatient therapy provision for patients being treated in Burns Outpatients and amputees both pre and post op.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to lead the Burns & Plastics OT team and will be responsible for clinical supervision of Band 6 OT, appraisals and ongoing service development, ensuring we meet the National Burns Care Standards.

There is an requiremnt of advanced assessment and clinical decision making as part of the MDT, including functional assessment and rehabilitation, splinting, wheelchair prescription and leading with complex discharge planning.

There is expectation that the candidate will be committed to providing high standards of care and consideration will be given to those who demonstrate the trusts visions and values.

The Burns & Plastics team runs a 6 day service from 08:00-16:00, and provide cover on Bank Holidays on a rota basis, therefore flexibility in working pattern is required.
