Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and innovative future leader to join us at this exciting juncture in a rapidly expanding AMU. We have recently rolled out a process driven Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit which, alongside the rest of AMU is ran by a dynamic and enthusiastic team. There has been no better time to have joined our AMU. There is a generous financial Welcome Payment available in addition to relocation expenses.

The unit serves a population of 250,000. The Acute Medical Unit is a purpose built 19-bedded unit. We have an assessment area which has 10 trolley spaces and chairs which is a protected and designated for assessment of SDEC patients alongside acutely unwell patients. The Department has a reputation for being forward thinking with an adept ability to be able to respond to the front door demands of the hospital. We are looking for a dynamic consultant to complement the current team of senior consultants. Recently finalists for a HSJ Patient Safety Award: Urgent and Emergency Care Safety Initiative of the year.

Our vision at our AMU is to provide expert care at the front door over a 7-day working week, treating a patient as an individual through a process driven model. To achieve this our aim is to significantly expand our consultant numbers. The clinical team is supported by junior medics, prescribing pharmacists, ward-based therapy and nursing support teams with plans to expand our Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates numbers.

Main duties of the job

What you'll do:

Work in close collaboration with the AMU team to improve the management of medical admissions, to support the achievement of departmental and trust key performance indicators (KPIs)

Work within your own area of subspecialty interest to influence change and service improvement within this area of medicine.

Support the Trust in the delivery of an effective front door service to support with patient flow and length of stay.

To continue to support the AMU in the delivery of excellent length of stay for their short stay inpatients.

Mentor and support the junior medical staff on the AMU and as part of the general medicine on call teams so as to create a culture of learning and development, promoting good team relationships.

Provide teaching to junior medical staff colleagues to support in their learning and development.

Participation in the on call medical consultant rota
