Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • HCPC Registration
  • Have a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent, acceptable for registration with the HCPC and evidence of further postgraduate study and continuous professional development.
  • A member of the British Dietetic Association and affiliated specialist interest groups relevant to this post.
  • Post registration training in advanced communication, motivational interviewing and behaviour change skills and evidence of effective verbal and written communication.
  • Undertaken leadership and clinical supervisory skills training and evidence of ability to lead/manage a team.
  • Evidence of teaching, training, and supervision of students
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of working in MDT's.
  • Evidence of working across organisational boundaries to develop effective pathways of care to the benefit of patient experience
  • Evidence of effective management & supervision of junior staff & students.
  • Broad NHS experience including extensive band 6/7 experience in Acute +/or Community setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and national priorities and champion of best practice
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical governance and patient safety

  • Completion of the BDA Parenteral and enteral nutrition module.

  • Ability to facilitate and deliver effective evidence based dietary and nutrition education sessions working with patient groups and staff groups.
  • Ability to promote and develop nutrition risk screening practice through other staff for all patients with a cancer diagnosis, especially for those receiving chemotherapy.
  • The ability to actively prioritise, meet deadlines and achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Evidence of being caring and compassionate with a good understanding of managing patients with complex needs.
  • Ability to advise and make recommendations on the prescription of enteral feeds and dietetic supplements based on interpretation of nutritional assessment and drug prescriptions and interactions relating to nutritional intake.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective part of a team(s) maintaining dynamic working relationships with key staff, e.g., Medical, Nursing, Therapy staff to facilitate timely and effective nutrition interventions for patients.
