Job summary
Based within the Orthopaedic department and treating outliers across the hospital you will be part of the Orthopaedic Therapy Team therapy team.
To assist the therapists in providing a high standard of care to patients.
To treat patients referred by a qualified therapist, according to set treatments goals, monitoring patient progress and adapting treatment as necessary. This could involve working in a variety of locations, reporting patient's progress and informing therapists of any problems.
The therapy assistant is expected to undertake therapy tasks independently, following written or verbal instructions from a qualified therapist. Access to advice and support from a qualified therapist is available. Will include working with adults and children.
To undertake routine administrative and departmental tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Main duties of the job
Patient/Client Care
- To provide, or assist qualified therapists to deliver, therapy to patients. This includes tasks such as enabling patients to mobilise, re-education of gait (walking), transfers including wheelchair transfers, hoisting, stairs, active exercises and passive movements, using transfer aids.
- To enable patients to practice activities of daily living e.g. feeding, washing, dressing, toileting, bathing, food preparation.
- To teach patients safe use of aids and equipment, under the guidance of the therapist
- Maintain patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for the prevention and control of infection, including hand hygiene. To undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in infection prevention and control.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in compliance with Trust and staff responsibilities under Section 11 of The Children Act 2004; to follow Trust safeguarding children and child protection policies and guidelines and undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in safeguarding children/child protection.
- To work in a collaborative and co operative manner with other health care professionals, patients, carers and their families, recognising and respecting their involvement in the planning and delivery of care.
