Specialist Oral Surgeon

Job summary

Applications are invited for a part time (0.9WTE) post commencing 1st July 2024 for a Specialist Oral Surgeon at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a responsibility for paediatric oral surgery lists.

We are looking for a dynamic, keen clinician to join the Oral, OMF Surgery and Orthodontic teams. The unit provides a comprehensive range of services including oral surgery, orthodontics, cleft, implant rehabilitation, orthognathic surgery and maxillofacial surgery, with the exception of major head and neck oncology. The unit includes a Cone Beam CT scanner and intra-oral scanners.

Entry on the GDC Register for Oral Surgery is a requirement for this post. All applicants must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) or eligible for relevant visa application.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Service

The department is looking to recruit a part time (0.9WTE) Specialist in Oral Surgery. The department would consider a job share arrangement. The successful candidate(s) will be fully integrated into the departmental clinics and out-patient treatment lists as well as involvement with theatres. There is no on call requirement for this post.

Out-patient Department: The role will contain routine attendance of new and follow up clinics for Oral Surgery patient care. There is a wide variety of pathologies treated within the department (cleft, orthognathic, salivary gland, oral medicine etc.) and the opportunity to be present at multi-disciplinary meetings and clinics.

The successful candidate will perform independent minor operations under local anaesthesia, plus intravenous sedation.

Theatre: General anaesthetic lists may be available to undertake surgical treatment, including treatment of impacted and ectopic teeth.

Leadership: The post holder will have a responsibility for paediatric oral surgery lists.
