Job summary

We have two exciting opportunities for Specialty Doctor's in Acute Oncology at Salisbury District Hospital starting immediately. You will be working Monday-Fridays . One post is full time and this post is for one-year fixed term position in the first instance. The second position is part time for 22.5 hours per week and is a permanent position.

These post's would be an excellent opportunity for applicants who have completed Core Medical Training and wish to gain experience in Medical and Clinical Oncology in a busy District General Hospital and would provide valuable experience for individuals with career interests in oncology, haematology and palliative care especially. You will provide medical support to the Acute Oncology Team and will also be encouraged to provide outpatient clinic support to the Consultant Oncologists across a range of tumour sites or potentially to Haematology if preferred. Although the post is advertised as a full-time appointment, candidates wishing to work less than full-time are encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

These posts would give an ideal opportunity for candidates to gain a wide range of Oncology experience in a cancer unit setting. You will perform a daily ward round of all Oncology inpatients who are admitted. You will also review any outliers and see ward referrals. You will review telephone advice given by the nurses and take action if required. You will review patient receiving Outpatient chemotherapy on the Pembroke suite in the event of complications.

You will be working closely with the appropriate Oncologist and liaising closely with the Medical Consultants responsible for Oncology inpatients. You will also liaise with the hospital palliative care team (Hospice on site) and the Oncology Research team.

You will assist the consultant Oncologists in the provision of Outpatient clinics, together with attendance at relevant MDT meetings.
