Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join Spire ward.

We are seeking innovative, highly motivated forward thinking nurses who has the ability to manage a busy unit on a daily basis using expert clinical knowledge and judgement whilst providing support to all staff.

We are a modern, forward thinking 30 bedded unit, patients are admitted from the AMU unit, AFU or Emergency Department. This ward cares for patients with complex medical needs, our patients may require robust discharge planning to ensure they are discharged into a caring and safe environment.

Spire is a friendly supportive ward. We are a developing and dynamic ward that can offer extensive learning and leadership opportunities in nursing.

Predominantly the unit provides care for elderly frail patients. We work closely as a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the appropriate care plan is in place for our patients.

We also provide holistic palliative and end of life care.

The ward is supported by a strong medical team, as well as an experienced and well established ward team. We have our own ward team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, discharge coordinator and pharmacist to facilitate seamless well led discharges.

Main duties of the job

Patient care: You will take overall responsibility for all patients on your ward ensuring they are appropriately assessed, management plans are in place and the care they receive is effective, compassionate and of the best quality. You will regularly take charge of the ward and be responsible for supervising others and evaluating the care patients receive.

Information resources: You must document care given, supervise the documentation others record and in adherence to the NMC standards for record keeping ensure patient records are accurate.

Human Resources: As an NMC registrant you will continue to develop yourself, support, mentor, supervise and teach junior staff, teach others including nursing assistants, pre and post registration students, newly qualified nurses and newly appointed staff. You will actively seek feedback on your performance, contribute to your appraisals and provide constructive feedback to those you supervise. You will keep staff records up to date.

As a senior member of the ward team you will develop a good understanding of HR processes in order to manage the performance of yourself, individuals and the team.
