Job summary
We are actively seeking the right candidate to join an established waste & grounds team of eight staff in Facilities as a permanent member of staff.

It's a full-time, permanent post working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days in 7 which will include Weekends & Bank Holidays, with Overtime rates payable & time off in lieu - employees will get back the actual hours they have worked.
Under NHS Agenda For Change salaries are reviewed each year; therefore the salary advertised will be uplifted in line with national agreement from 1 April 2024.
This post forms part of Facilities' Waste & Grounds Team covering Hospital Waste, Recycling & Grounds. You will have plenty of diversity working as part of a committed team, under the supervision of the Waste & Grounds Team Leader.
Uniform including safety boots and necessary personal protective equipment for the work outlined are provided.
Main duties of the job
Work is managed on a rotational basis and our staff love the variety this brings. One week you will be driving an electric tug transporting & handling the hospital's Domestic, Clinical & Hazardous Waste; another managing recyclable materials in the Waste Transfer Store & loading the outside compactor. In contrast another week you will be working in the fresh air, undertaking grounds maintenance duties around the hospital's extensive 22 Hectare site.
Our rural, elevated site is home to many chalk grassland plants including the bee orchid, wild thyme, marjoram and wild carrot. The Waste & Grounds Team proudly work to conserve this special habitat; work which contributed to the hospital winning the 'Successful ways to support biodiversity' New Forest Award in October 2022. The Trust recently planted 100 native blossom trees from NHS Forest to enhance the environment for the wellbeing of visitors and staff.
In outline candidates must possess: -
UK driving licenseCategory B to drive Tugs & Flat Bed Truck
Good level of fitness, this post involves manual handling, working with machinery, tools & lots of walking plus solo working at weekends.
Competency in oral & written English & basic numeracy; together with basic keyboard skills
Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act, Manual Handling, COSHH Regulations would be useful; as would any previous experience working in waste management or grounds maintenance & improvement.
