Job summary

Are you interested in delivering and developing ground-breaking and growing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) with a passionate and forward thinking team? We have an opportunity in our CAMHS Learning Disabilities Team, this role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents with learning disabilities.

The specialty doctor would, under supervision and as part of an MDT, support with assessment of referrals, care planning and treatment formulation. They would also assist with standard medication reviews for anxiety, challenging behaviour, ADHD management, through to complex medication management for the LD population. The appointee would also provide consultation to the wider MDT and work collaboratively with other services and agencies such as Paediatrics, Children's Social Care, and Education.

Main duties of the job

The Speciality Doctor will assist with standard medication reviews for anxiety, challenging behaviour, ADHD management, through to complex medication management for the LD population. The Specialty Doctor will learn how to assess challenging behaviour and contribute to the development of Positive Behaviour Support plans.

The appointee will exercise an intermediate level of clinical responsibility as delegated by the consultant in charge, work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary framework to support patients and their families/guardians and use their excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide psychiatry advice and support to the wider team. Other duties include undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients, recording clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, participating in the academic programme of the trust and working with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services.

Desirable

  • Attendance at MRCPsych course or equivalent Section 12 (2) approval: Mental Health Act, 1983
