Job summary

We are currently looking for a Community Phlebotomist to join our friendly and supportive team.

The role will be in the City Phlebotomy team providing phlebotomy services to housebound patients in their own homes working closely with the District Nursing Team .

You will need excellent communication skills both written and verbal as well as the ability to manage your own workload in a fast paced environment.

Applicants must have a full valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work (adjustments can be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010 where required) because the role requires you to work in all areas of Oxford City as well as supporting other teams.

You will ideally have previous phlebotomy experience. Training will be provided.

Various hours available up to up to 37.5 hours per week. Core hours are Monday- Friday 8.00-16.00.

Main duties of the job

  • To contribute to an efficient and effective phlebotomy service delivered to housebound patients registered with a GP in Oxford.
  • To liaise and work collaboratively with multi-professionals in order to access appropriate referrals within the requested time frames.
  • Able to respond and adapt to the practicalities and realities of unpredictable patients' visit when required.
  • To prepare patients, check their identity and ensure consent is given to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Obtain blood sample from patients ensuring a high standard of the procedure is followed to reduce any risk of infection or contamination and strive to minimise pain, bruising, or discomfort to the patient.
  • Ensure sample is of sufficient quantity for the investigation
  • Ensure all samples and requesting forms are accurately detailed and appropriately labelled for analysis.
  • Ensure all samples are returned to appropriate collection areas for same day testing using specimen transportation container provided.
  • Ensure that patients are clearly informed where to access their blood results and how to arrange any follow up visits.
