We are looking for an enthusiasticWard Manager to work in our purpose built, state of the art 8 bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for young people in the Thames Valley. The PICU will be part of a system of mental health care for young people which comprises both community and inpatient provision. The PICU will provide a range of specialist treatment approaches based on attachment theory and Positive Behaviour Support.

The PICU Ward Manager along with the Clinical Nurse Lead will be responsible for effective operational management, organisation and delivery of high-quality nursing care within the unit. Clinical leadership skills are a crucial component for the role which will include some shift working to support with effective role modelling and development of the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to be an experienced, highly skilled, and motivated registered mental health nurse, who demonstrates excellent communication skills, and who is able to support and lead a team of staff, whilst working closely with the senior leadership team to manage the challenges of the environment and support the patients within our care.

The Unit is committed to development of the staff team and the successful candidate will have opportunities for training including Masters Modules in Positive Behavioural support and working with Autism. Leadership training in also available and would be a requirement of the role

The post holder will be responsible for the effective operational management, organization, and delivery of high-quality nursing care, as well as clinical leadership within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Additionally, the post holder will support the provision of 24-hour full and accountable managerial responsibility for the ward.

Key responsibilities also include determining and managing the administrative needs of the ward. The post holder will lead efforts to ensure effective joint working with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure responsive and appropriate service delivery to users and carers. Furthermore, the post holder will represent the service both internally and externally in relation to all these responsibilities.

The role involves managing the interface between criminal justice services and the PICU, supporting the direct management of patients through these pathways. The post holder will also ensure that the unit meets the level of security required according to NAPICU standards. Finally, the post holder will manage the unit as an integral part of the acute inpatient pathway within Oxford Health.
