Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic and experienced Dietitian, looking for a specialist role? We are looking for you to join our Adult Community Eating Disorder (ACED) team in Oxford.

We are looking for someone who can join an 'up and coming' community team which values each profession and individual for their unique approach and contribution to service development and patient care. We have recently established the FREED (First episode Rapid Early intervention for eating disorders) model and continue to move towards the development of future treatment pathways including holding hope , PEACE and ARFID which requires close working with colleagues in Child and Adolescent, Older Adults and as well as other mental health and acute services across the Thames Valley region.

We are passionate about embedding dietetic interventions and expertise within the current treatment pathways and keen to continue to review and develop these in line with service transformation.

You will be ambitious , have a positive attitude and outstanding clinical skills. An experience of working with people with eating disorders would be really beneficial however someone who demonstrated a real passion for learning and specialising in this field would be considered . This is ideally a Band 7 position however will consider applications from a current Band 6 dietitian who meets criteria for a Band 7 developmental opportunity.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Specialist Dietitian within the ACED service is to provide comprehensive care to individuals with eating disorders, as well as taking a leadership role within the multi-disciplinary team to embed dietetics as a key element of assessment and treatment for our client group. You will receive, and be required to offer, supervision to other team members and act as Practice Assessor / Supervisor to dietetic students and apprentices.

The specialist dietitian plays a significant role in educating patients, carers, and other healthcare providers on the complex nature of eating disorders and the nutritional risks and requirements. You will be an important member of the Multidisciplinary assessment clinics and will be involved in treatment formulation and assessment outcome decisions. You will work collaboratively to manage risk and develop comprehensive treatment plans as well as outcome measure collection, audit, and treatment reviews.

You will be expected to aim for expertise in your field and provide consultation and training to other professionals within the trust and externally as required. You will be required to attend professional meetings as a representative of the team and be involved in service development in addition to signposting and liaison with alternative services such as specialist eating disorder inpatient units, adult mental health teams, community dietetics and acute hospitals.

The community team is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrist, Nursing staff, Dietitians, Social Worker, Assistant Psychologists, Community Support Workers, and team administrators. We are moving towards the development of a life span service and have working links with colleagues in the Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders Services as well as other community eating disorder services and specialist treatment units.

Our service provides assessment and treatment interventions, such as Specialist supportive clinical management (SSCM), Model of Anorexia treatment for adults (MANTRA) and Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) tailored to the needs of adults with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder. These adults can often have co-morbid physical and mental health difficulties which need to be taken into consideration and often require an adapted approach, such as the PEACE (Pathway for Eating disorders and Autism developed from Clinical Experience) and/ or joint working with other services.

We offer a range of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and deliver these within the community. There are opportunities for further training and development.

The service is committed to evidence-based and evidence generating practice and your role will include the opportunity to be part of service development, if you have skills and interests you wish to develop, we are open to discuss these as part of our ongoing personal development review programme.

There is a strong AHP (Allied Health Professionals) community within the Trust with significant opportunities to support integrated working and showcasing the achievements of AHPs within the Trust.

Support to develop skills will be offered by the Trust Learning and Development Team through a programme of CPD (Clinical and Professional Development). Specific support and supervision are provided by team members including nursing, psychology, and social work colleagues.
