Cotswold House Oxford is 14 bedded specialist Adult Eating Disorder Unit with 6- day treatment places, based at the Warneford Hospital. Our team is dynamic, and we provide a seamless service, from inpatient to outpatient, a stepped model of care, tailored to individual needs. We offer multi-disciplinary pre-admission assessments to collaboratively plan aims and goals of admission.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for the upkeep of the ward standards, safety for all, as well as being responsible for the diet and fluid intake of all patients.

You will assist at mealtimes, ensuring patients are having an adequate diet and, a meal of their choice. You will work with patients and report any changes in patient presentation to the Nurse in Charge for escalation to doctors. In addition, you will assist qualified staff with the admission process, ensuring new patients are orientated to their new environment, property is checked.

You will also work alongside the doctors, ensuring physical observations are done. You will assist with escorting patients to and from hospital or other appointments.

You must have excellent communication skills, be reliable, punctual, and work well in a team. You will be supporting OTs with the running of groups, involving patients in daily activities. You will have the opportunity to work alongside Key Nurses and liaise with patients and their families alike

You will have 2 weeks induction period. The first week your shift will start at 9-5. This period will give you the opportunity to read policies, ask questions, attend MDT handover/meet the team, attend Clinical Team Meeting which is our ward round, held on a Monday and CPAs on a Wednesday. You will also be expected to bring in your Local Induction Pack, Newcomers Guide and Dining room Competences (will have been sent to you prior to commencing new job), there are some areas that staff will need to go through with you and get you signed off.

Apart from medication, our first line of treatment is food. In your second week you will start shadowing different staff, have your dining room competences signed off, also have the feel of the ward; how it runs. Having completed your induction period you will choose to either do single shifts or long days including your 4 nights which will give you an opportunity to shadow Skin Inspection and weighing of patients.Our shift pattern is as follows:Early shift: 07:00 14:50 (20 mins break)Late shift: 13:10 21:00 (20mins break)Night shift: 21:40 07:20 (40mins break) ORLong day: 07:00 21:00 1hr break)
