Job summary

Are you caring, compassionate, motivated and interested in developing your career within the National Health Service? Then this may be the opportunity for you! Join us at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT), training to become a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, gaining a BSc Honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy with Birmingham City University, whilst you work.

The Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship combines clinical employment, work based learning, and academic learning. It is a fully funded route towards qualification as a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist.

As an employee of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, you will demonstrate our values, and once you have completed all the requirements for registration as a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, you will be supported to apply for band 5 vacancies within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will be employed as an Apprentice Speech and Language Therapist at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and will work as part of a therapy team working across the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit based at the Warneford Hospital and the Learning Disabilities and Autism Hospital@Home Service.

The Learning Disabilities and Autism Hospital@Home Service work with young people with a learning disability and/or autism (with functional impairment). We provide an alternative to inpatient admission, via an intensive model that links into existing community services. We support young people to stay as close to home as possible.

The PICU provides a safe and supportive environment whilst young people are in the most acute and vulnerable stage of their illness. The unit's core model is positive behavioural support (PBS) and other interventions will be considered for young people including medication, individual and group psychological therapies and family support as recommended by the NICE guidance, and dependent on clinical need.

During the apprenticeship you will develop skills and knowledge that will allow you to work in today's dynamic and changing healthcare environment. Whilst you will be based in one specific team across our community and mental health services, your placements will provide a variety of learning environments both within Oxford Health and with external healthcare providers.
