Job summary

Community Forensic CAMHS South West (North) is pleased to be hosting the Enhanced Case Management Service (ECM) within its region. The FCAMH Service has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Clinical or Forensic Psychologists to join our supportive and friendly team.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Psychologists interested to join our Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team working across Gloucestershire Youth Offending Services. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical/Forensic psychologist to lead on the psychological part of the ECM service.

Main duties of the job

ECM is a psychology-led approach that sits with in Youth Justice Services and uses multi-agency case formulation to understand what has happened to a child alongside their developmental needs, strengths and protective factors. This informs the way practitioners work with and support children to achieve better outcomes and develop their strengths and potential. ECM is founded in the Trauma Recovery Model and keeps the child at the centre of its thinking.

About us

The psychologist will be well supported by the hosting Community Forensic CAMHS. Although ECM is a pure consultation service, the connection to Community Forensic CAMHS will enable some direct work with young people. Not only will the work enable the psychologist to make a difference to some of the most marginalised and traumatised young people in the region, but also they will be well placed bring more psychological thinking to youth Justice Services. Job description

Job responsibilities

Case formulation is an integral part of ECM delivery. The psychologists role is to:

Facilitate multi-agency discussion and highlight patterns of behaviour to assist understanding of the child and their life experiences.

Participate in drawing up a developmental map for each child under discussion.

Review the case in relation to the Trauma Recovery Model (TRM) and identify where the childs presenting behaviour and underlying needs sits within it.

Agree a set of recommendations with those attending the case-formulation about the most appropriate interventions for the child depending on where they are located within the TRM.

Produce a case formulation report, within one month of the formulation meeting, which contains the clinical opinion of the psychologist, the recommendations discussed, and an outline plan based on agreed actions.

Lead on case formulation and reviews and provide relevant reports; make recommendations for intervention planning and delivery; and provide clinical supervision and support to YOS practitioners managing ECM cases.

The psychologist/s will participate in regular reviews of case progress to provide advice and support to the YOS case manager and to discuss any issues that arise in implementing the intervention plan. The frequency of reviews will be determined by the YOS case manager, ECM senior practitioner and the psychologist/s.

Please note:

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.

Qualifications - Academic/Skills/Professional

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996, as accredited by the British Psychological Society, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registration
  • Qualifications / training in clinical supervision

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience of working as a qualified clinical or Forensic psychologist with post-qualification experience working at a Highly Specialist level.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, day services and in patient settings
  • Experience of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in Child and adolescent and or forensic mental health
