The Getting Help (GH) and Getting More Help (GMH) teams are part of the core provision of Child and Adolescent Mental Health service (CAMHs), supporting 5-18 years old children and young people across City and South Oxfordshire.

The service offers, amongst other functions, assessment and formulation of complex presentations where mental health may be or is a contributing factor, evidence-based interventions, which vary from early intervention up to highly specialist treatment interventions.

The role involves being part of the senior clinical team to set out the vision for the service, as well as lead it operationally. The service is embarking on significant transformation, following a series of engagement workshops.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, and hardworking individual, that can manage conflicting priorities, prioritising service delivery, and wellbeing. Whilst previous experience is desirable, we are looking for someone with the correct core and transferable skills for the role.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

  • To take overall management responsibility for all aspects of service delivery and operational matters for the South Oxfordshire Getting Help (GH) and Getting More Help (GMH) services
  • To work as an integral member of service's leadership Team to deliver a high-quality responsive service to meet the needs of children and young people in Oxfordshire.
  • To provide a high level of clinical assessment and treatment, within services' remit, to young people presenting with mental health conditions.
  • Work towards a culture where services are seamlessly integrated.
  • Put in place and monitor arrangements for partnership working across the localities.
  • To assist with the modernisation and redesign of the CAMHs services, leading on agreed projects.
  • To develop robust interagency relationships with, Children, Young People and Families services, and other key agencies, supporting the development of integrated care pathways and locality working.
  • To ensure Young People and Carers are included in all the work we do and structures are developed to incorporate users at all levels

The GH and GMH teams are undergoing significant transformation due to the next phase of service development (following introduction of the Thrive model), and there are a number of new posts available, including through partner agencies.

Job responsibilities

The post is based in the South Oxfordshire Getting Help and Getting More Help teams, who provide a range of support to children and young people, from early intervention to complex risk management and treatment of mental health disorders. Our service provides a stepped-care model tailored to the needs of children and young people who require a formulation of their needs or support / treatment, and their carers. We offer a range of evidence-based treatments and deliver these within the community services.

The post is advertised as full-time, and based in Abingdon with some days working virtually. We are keen to employ the right candidate and happy to discuss the job plan around the role to get the right focus. Both teams are comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including: Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Nursing staff, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Psychologists, Community Support Workers and Team Administrators.

People Management

  • To take operational responsibility for the Team. This includes monitoring and managing workloads, use of time, operational supervision, authorising leave and expenses
  • To support staff to work in a variety of environments (digital working, office working and home working) and commit to continuing to develop the teams varieties of offers.
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and management of the teams in providing a safe, effective and therapeutic clinical team ensuring the delivery of high-quality community mental health care packages
  • To deploy staff to meet demand and to address any variance in demand across the counties or short-term deficiencies in cover
  • To actively support individual continuous professional development of staff in partnership with appropriate professional leads
  • To manage any disciplinary or performance situations that arise within the patch
  • To provide, maintain and develop community mental health care to the optimum standard possible within the resources provided.

Partnership working

  • To work in partnership with Key agencies within the counties to ensure robust relationships, safeguarding and shared outcomes for children and young people.
  • To support the development of integrated care pathways
  • To build strong strategic and operational relationships between the CAMHS clinical Pathways and associated Community Teams, Children Young people and Families, in-patient services and with adult mental health services.
  • When required to lead on working with external providers to support the work of the team. Build good relationships with the selected service to ensure smooth transition for any young person being transferred.

Professional and Education / Training Skills

  • Maintains an effective learning environment for the team and all students seconded to the teams
  • Keeps up to date with legislation, evidence-based practice and has a clear understanding of good practice
  • Follows professional guidelines and Codes of Practice as laid down by the NMC or relevant governing body.

Accounting & Budget Management

  • To plan and manage the budget for services in a way which ensures that resources are optimised.
  • To work closely with the Service Manager to determine properly costed service plans and to ensure their achievement through budgetary control
  • To be accountable for seeing that the budgets for the services they are responsible for are managed within resources.

Performance Management

  • To be responsible for ensuring that all agreed standards and performance measures are met and that there is a constant thrust for service improvement and risk reduction.
  • To be responsible for working closely with clinicians and professionals and support staff within the service to audit outcomes and promote best practice.

General Management

  • To participate in the on call Clinical Team Managers CAMHS and Specialist rota (1/10 weeks).
  • To ensure that the Service is friendly and responsive and deals with complaints and suggestions in a timely and efficient manner. Able to work positively with clients or carers who express verbal concerns or complaints about the service and attempt early and effective resolution in conjunction with the PALS Service
  • To coordinate and investigate complaints and SUIs
  • To ensure that all sites and services have, and use, adequate and up to date policies including those for fire, health and safety and environmental risk.
  • To provide cover for the other Team Managers or the Service Manager as required
  • To ensure that accommodation, facilities and staff are organised to enable effective provision of services.
