The Emergency Department Psychiatric Service (EDPS) is recruiting for a Band 7 Mental Health Practitioners (Social Work, RMN, Occupational Therapist).
We are looking for someone who is wants an opportunity to use and develop their skills and knowledge by working in the Emergency Departments of the Oxford University Hospital Trust (OUH) , for the Emergency Department Psychiatric Service (EDPS).

Main duties of the job
You will work closely with colleagues in OUH to support and manage the acutely unwell patient with mental health needs attending the Emergency Depts of the John Radcliffe and Horton hospitals.
You will carry out comprehensive psychosocial assessments, risk assessments and agree discharge safety plans to achieve a timely discharge from ED.
Part of your role will also be to deliver a brief follow up to service users who present with needs that may not be eligible for secondary Mental health services, which we call BIRSH (Brief Intervention Repeat Self Harm) ; you will be supported to gain training, if required, in DBT and CBT informed interventions .

EDPS sits within the Mental Health Urgent Care Pathway, which includes the Police and Ambulance Triage and the Oxon Night team, in line with NHS strategy we anticipate that there will be further developments within these services and there may be opportunity for you to contribute and be part of this.
The service has close links with Oxford University Center for Suicide Research, contributing to the Oxford Monitoring System for self-harm and other research initiatives.
The team won awards for Innovation and Improvement a few years ago, for delivering Technology Assisted Psychiatry (TAP), which are remote psycho social assessments via face time or Microsoft Teams; something we are all very familiar with now.

In the New Year we will be participating in a randomised controlled trial of Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (SAFE-PIT).
If you are someone who thrives on working within a busy and often challenging but stimulating environment, with excellent clinical and interpersonal skills who is enthusiastic and motivated to implement change and develop the service you work in, thismay be the job for you!
The posts are based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Occasional travel to the Horton Hospital in Banbury is required and therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is necessary.
Therole requires shift working which is presently a pattern of long days and nights; further information regarding this can be obtained upon request and will be discussed at interview.

- New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
