Job summary

We are looking for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join the Adult Community Eating Disorder service, and Cotswold House In-patient Unit, in Oxford. This is an exciting time for our team due to the National development and increased funding of eating disorders, leading to a new service model for community, day-patient and inpatient services across Oxfordshire.

Main duties of the job

The main component of the role will be in ensuring the provision of high quality specialist CBT-ED (both on a 1-1 and in group format) to patients who are referred to the eating disorder service. There will be opportunities to develop skills through training and by working with other senior colleagues as appropriate, whether that be through ongoing development of clinical or leadership skills. the post holder will be required to offer supervision to others in the service, which will include psychological therapists and other professionals.

The post holder will be ambitious and have a positive attitude and outstanding clinical and leadership skills. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills which will enable them to thrive within a multi-disciplinary team context and in working with this complex patient group and their families. The post is based currently in Oxford which is a specialist adult eating disorders service with a reputation for excellence. Our service provides a stepped-care model tailored to the needs of adults with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder with or without co-morbid mental health problems and their carers. We offer a range of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and deliver these within the community and inpatient services. There are opportunities for further training in the evidence based treatments, including regular CBT-E supervision and the service is developing the FREED initiative. We are also involved in the development of New Care Models/Provider Collaboratives which will transform the way inpatient services are delivered across the county. The Adult Community Eating Disorders service is undergoing significant transformation due to the next phase of service development and NHS England investment, and there are a number of new posts available, including recruiting other professional groups.

The post is advertised as having a role in the community team (0.6WTE) and within the inpatient team (0.4WTE) which are both based in Oxford. We are keen to employ the right candidate and happy to discuss the job plan around the role to get the right focus. Both teams are comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including: Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrist, Nursing staff, Social Worker, Assistant Psychologists, Community Support Workers and team Administrators. Due to the service development and NHS England investment, there are a number of new roles and we are also recruiting other professional groups, and this role will support these. We are moving towards the development of a life span service and have good links with colleagues in the Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders Services and also the Adult Community Eating Disorders service in Buckinghamshire.

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
