Job summary

Oxford Health is looking for an excellent full-time specialty doctor post to work on Ruby ward- a 20 bedded acute female inpatient ward based at the Whiteleaf Centre, Aylesbury. The post-holder will work alongside 1 full time Consultant on Ruby ward and the multidisciplinary inpatient team. The role also includes opportunities to develop their skills in ECT by contributing to the in hours ECT rota with full supervision. This is a fantastic and rare opportunity to learn more about this service and to receive training in rTMS.

Ruby ward along with Sapphire ward (20 bed acute male in-patient ward) are the acute admission wards for the psychiatric service of adults of working age in Buckinghamshire. In addition, from time to time, they take admissions for older patients, either because they remain open to the adults of working age service, or because they present challenging behaviour more appropriately managed on these wards. Ruby ward has a fully staffed multidisciplinary team. There is place of safety attached to the ward.

All inpatient wards are currently AIMS accredited.

Trust has recently set up a Centre for Patient Safety and Quality. There will be opportunities for medical input into this Centre.

Main duties of the job

The Specialty Doctor will have weekly clinical supervision from the Consultant Psychiatrist on Ruby ward.

The Trust expects all Specialty Doctors to engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD. Time for CPD and other supporting professional activities to be negotiated annually at job plan interview. Specialty Doctors have their own Tutor. There is additional funding made available from the Deanery for Specialty Doctors.

Oxford Health has created a CESR Fellowship scheme and specialty doctors with suitable experience are actively encouraged to apply for CESR Fellowship to gain CCT equivalence. Dr Sophie Johnson is the Bucks CESR Educational Supervisor who mentors CESR fellows to submit their portfolio to RCPsych. CESR fellows will have two dedicated SPA sessions to work towards their curricular requirements.

Clinical audit: doctors are expected to participate actively in clinical audit, selecting relevant subjects for audit and supporting members of the multidisciplinary team in undertaking and presenting relevant audit projects.
