Job summary

Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry or Psychotherapy interested in delivering and developing specialist treatments for those diagnosable with personality disorder?

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, energetic consultant to join the Complex Needs Service, an established specialist personality disorder service. We are seeking a medical leader who can inspire our team and the wider organisation to deliver excellent care and facilitate innovative service development.

The service aim is to:

- improve outcomes for individuals diagnosable with personality disorder through direct clinical interventions, specialist consultation, training and education and engagement in research;

- instil hope and;

- reduce stigma associated with the diagnosis.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post developed to support the expansion of clinical service and consultation provision across Oxfordshire alongside the development of an integrated care pathway for individuals with complex emotional needs. As an established centre of excellence, the Complex Needs Service offers a comprehensive range of evidence-based treatments for personality disorder. The successful applicant will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver psychological interventions and together with two other consultant psychiatrists, will provide oversight of psychiatric care to patients under CPA in the service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist's Guidelines) Approved clinician Status and section 12( MHA) Approval are essential. Candidates who are in the process of getting AC approval will be considered. Eligibility for Section 12 (Mental Health Act) Approval

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. CCT in medical psychotherapy. Additional clinical qualifications.

ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within appropriate time period for eligibility. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Excellent IT skills including typing.

Desirable

  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or other relevant training such as CCT in General Practice

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty (personality disorder). Experience of a variety of therapeutic modalities including as a minimum therapeutic community work and mentalisation based therapy (MBT). Training in MBT. Experience of close collaborative work with social care and other agencies Recent experience of either working in or closely working with general adult psychiatry Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, including the ability to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve positive patient outcomes. Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
