Job summary

Main duties of the job

This is a pivotal role with line management responsibilities for the three Team Managers across Mental Health Social Work within Buckinghamshire, including the Approved Mental Health Professional Service.

You will support the Team Managers in the delivery of their duties, providing professional practice guidance and input directly into the management of complex cases including those managed within the scope of the Court of Protection. You will have proven experience of leading mental health social care teams delivering statutory Care Act and s117 responsibilities.

The post-holder will represent social care within the Trust at a senior level and represent mental health services within Buckinghamshire Council in policy and practice development forums.

Working in a changing environment, you will be able to clearly articulate how a strength-based practice model translates to partners in delivering improved outcomes for vulnerable adults in Buckinghamshire. You will ensure that the Council's fiscal responsibilities are managed throughout social care practice within the Trust.

You will have strategic leadership skills, with proven experience of managing staff, inspiring confidence, encouraging, motivating and influencing others.

You will be required to build sustained and trusted relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders.

You will be joining a wide network that is a partnership between OHFT and Buckinghamshire Council striving to deliver outstanding care.

The staff team includes a number of experienced senior staff who provide stability, a wealth of knowledge and inspirational leadership. We have had recent successes in recruitment and are striving to continually improve the standards of service through training and development of the workforce. As a service we combine strengths-based working with relationship-based social work practice, respecting the individual circumstances of the diverse community we serve.As a Service Manager you will provide leadership to Adult Social Care and direct management to Team Managers. Coaching and motivating staff to provide flexible, efficient and high-quality services within a constantly changing environment.

You will be specifically accountable for the Mental Health social work function inclusive of the community teams, AMHP service, Early Resolution & Safeguarding and 18-25s Social Work Team. You will lead the following key areas:

  • Developing a strength-based inclusive culture in practice and leadership/ coaching of the workforce
  • Transformation of Adult Social Care and service improvement to deliver outstanding support to Buckinghamshire residents
  • Compliance with all statutory social care requirements including the Care Act, the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act and Buckinghamshire Multi-agency Safeguarding procedures
  • Budget and financial management
  • Performance against statutory and locally determined indicators
  • Partnership working with stakeholders internal and external to Buckinghamshire Council

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
